What Is the Best Age to Get a Nose Job?

As with all other plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty is not recommended before the age of 18 unless it is mandatory. Although there is no definite idea about the most appropriate age for this surgery, the common opinion is that it should be performed from 17 years of age in female patients and 18 years of age in male patients. According to some opinions, this lower limit can be lowered to 16 for girls and 17 for boys. The important thing is that the rhinoplasty candidate has completed his/her physical development. Apart from these, nasal aesthetic surgery may be required at a much earlier age in cases such as problems that prevent advanced breathing, congenital anomaly, and loss of the nose due to trauma.

While some patients have a very beautiful nose structure in childhood, the shape of the nose may change in advanced ages or the nasal arch becomes more pronounced in patients who wear eyeglasses for a long time. The age distinction is determined by physical development and anatomical growth. However, another important issue in rhinoplasty is psychology. Since the nose has a very important place in facial expression, the mental maturity of the patient is also very important in deciding the change in the aesthetic appearance of the nose and the dimensions of this change.

People between the ages of 13-18 have not fully completed their mental and physical development. However, if the deformation in the nose is extreme in a way that lowers the self-confidence of the patient and makes him/her unhappy, operating a nose job under appropriate conditions will make the patient much happier and more peaceful in his/her social life.

As long as general health allows, aesthetic (rhinoplasty) and functional (septoplasty) nose surgeries can be performed at any age. However, since these operations are performed under general anesthesia, taking into account the risks and difficulties of general anesthesia, septoplasty is mostly performed in the advanced age group to correct breathing problems rather than rhinoplasty to fix cosmetic problems.

Considering these factors, we can say that the 20s and 30s are the most suitable age range for rhinoplasty surgery.
